Where is Curtis' summer program located?
The Curtis summer program is located in our New York City office. Our office is in the heart of midtown, steps from Grand Central Station and Bryant Park.
How does the callback interview process work?
Callback candidates are contacted soon after their on-campus interview to schedule their callback date and time. Interviews are scheduled on certain days in August from 5-7pm. A reception from 7-8pm is held immediately after the interviews so students can meet and mingle with more Curtis attorneys. Candidates will meet with both partners and associates from their specified areas of interest. We strive to notify candidates the outcome of their callback interview as soon as possible.
How long is the summer program?
The summer program lasts ten weeks. It begins late May
and ends late July.
What kind of training of will I receive as a summer associate?
At Curtis we are dedicated to providing our summer associates with a well-rounded curriculum.
The summer program provides formal training in substantive areas such as legal writing and
research, and taking depositions. These seminars are instructed by our partners and associates
that are experts in their fields. We believe it is our responsibility to provide our summer
associates with a realistic view of what it is like to practice law in order prepare you for your
future career; this is done through extensive hands-on training. Summer associates working on
corporate matters can expect to assist in the drafting and negotiation of transaction documents,
due diligence, developing and analyzing transaction structures and attending client meetings.
Summer associates working on litigation matters can expect to participate in preparing for and
attending depositions, preparing for witness preparation, oral arguments and attending court appearances.
What type of assignments will I receive as a summer associate and how will they be distributed?
Summer associates receive substantive legal work pertaining to ongoing client matters that
correspond to your interests and goals. Assignments may include conducting legal research,
drafting memoranda and attending client conferences. Summer associates receive assignments
from their assigned partner mentor and from four designated assigning associates.
Is there a mentor program for summer associates?
Each summer associate is matched with a partner mentor and an associate advisor. These
individuals are not only responsible for overseeing his or her work but also to address any
questions or concerns you may have and ensure you have the best experience possible during your ten weeks with Curtis.
How does the evaluation process work?
Feedback is a central component of the learning process at Curtis. Each assignment will be
evaluated by the supervising attorney but we highly encourage summer associates to reach out
for informal feedback from not only your mentor and advisor, but other attorneys at the firm as well. In addition, each summer associate will receive two formal reviews during the summer; a mid-summer and final review.
Will I have the opportunity to work on pro bono matters as
a summer associate?
Yes, summer associates have the opportunity to work on pro bono matters during the summer
program. Summer associates can work on ongoing matters or can seek approval from the Pro Bono Committee to work with a new organization.
What kind of social activities are planned for summer associates?
One of our top priorities is providing our summer associates with a rewarding experience and the opportunity to get to know your fellow summer associates and our attorneys outside the
workplace. With that in mind we have a packed calendar of events including happy hours,
baseball games, mixology classes, a Broadway show and so much more.
When will I find out if I received an offer to return as
an associate?
Shortly before the close of the summer you will be notified as to our offer decision.
